Juan Castro Blanco National Park is a true paradise for nature enthusiasts, boasting an impressive range of biodiversity. From lush cloud forests to crystal-clear rivers, this park provides a habitat for an incredible variety of plant and animal species. Towering trees, vibrant orchids, and delicate ferns adorn the landscapes, creating a botanical paradise. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the park's avian residents, including the resplendent quetzal, toucans, and a multitude of hummingbird species.

After a 90 minute drive from La Fortuna we embark on our 2 mile hiking adventure through one of Juan Castro Blanco National Park's well-maintained trails. The trail leads us through a serene cloud forest, offering a tranquil atmosphere and enchanting views. We hear the sounds of nature as we traverse the moss-covered fairytale-like terrain, surrounded by glistening streams. Our knowledgeable guide informs us about the characteristics of the cloud forest and keeps an eye out for animals.

The park is also known as "National Park of Water". The primary rivers of the Northern Zone originate here and it's categorized the tenth most important fresh water body on earth. We are now at more than 5,400 feet above sea level, so bring a jacket as it can get chilly.

After the hike we enjoy a delicious lunch and a stunning view over the plains of San Carlos (if weather conditions are good), before returning to our hotels in La Fortuna.
